Spelthorne Aikido Club
Aikido training in Staines and Egham
Englefield Green Social Hall (Egham)
Classes: Tuesdays 8:15pm—10:15pm
The Social Hall is on the junction of Harvest Road and Victoria Street in Englefield Green, which is at the top of Egham Hill. It is possible to walk from Egham station, but because it's uphill you should allow 25 minutes or so if you do. If we know you're coming one of us might be able to give you a lift up the hill! Alternatively buses 71 and 441 go to Englefield Green (from Egham or Slough).
Egham is on the London Waterloo–Reading line. Trains to Egham from London are usually going to Reading.
There's a small carpark beside the hall and some street parking nearby. Otherwise, there is always space in the Victoria Street car park about 500 yards further down Victoria Street (beyond the Armstrong Gun pub), which is free in the evenings.
Your first class is free. After that, you pay per lesson.
One thing: if you get here and the doors are already closed, come to the side door (that's in Victoria Street). You'll see the lights are on and you'll probably hear us putting the mats out. Tap on the door and we'll let you in!
Directions
If you come to Englefield Green by bus, ask to get off at the Holly Tree pub. The pub is at one end of Victoria Street and the Social Hall is at the other, just two or three minutes' walk away.
From Egham station, the easiest way to walk to the dojo is to start by heading towards the town centre. Make sure you come out of the station on the ticket office side (if you've come in from London, you'll need to cross the railway first). Cross to the left side of the street and walk past the tattoo parlour and the Alma Mata bar. At the traffic lights turn left. The first bus stop you come to serves buses 71 and 441, which will take you up the hill. Otherwise, if you want to keep walking, continue along — leaving the Crown pub and Strodes College on your right — until you get to Egham Hill Roundabout. Take the second exit up Egham Hill (the A30), which takes you past the BP petrol station. Cross the road and continue up the hill. Turn right when you get to Middle Hill (that's the name of the road). Walk up Middle Hill, past the Beehive pub, looking out for Parsonage Road on your left when you get near the top. Walk along Parsonage Road — when you get to the end, you're facing the Social Hall on Harvest Road.
